Overall..

I’m very pleased with the outcome. I have come to understand that photography involves constant decision making, about the composition, settings, lighting and props. I have learnt how important it is to quickly sketch ideas in your head so i can refer back to them and their still will be useful in the future. In this project I was particularly inspired by 1960’s-80’s music and fashion, props with the meaning behind it and old vintage photographs.

6th FINAL IMAGE:
The last photograph is a the old woman, holding a photograph of herself and her brother. I used a vignette to makes the shape of the eye so it looks like the viewer who’s looking at the image is looking through their own eyes at the old woman memories.

( the idea of her holding her ear is to show how old she is/ deaf or trying to hear what YOU think of her memories)

Printing!

I had to make a decision and choose which photos I would like to print out in a3 size or a4  ( 2xa3 and 4xa4 in total) The first and the third image were printed in a3 size and the rest of them in a4. The old woman and the white dressed lady seemed like a very strong images to me. I printed the old woman on the matt paper and the lady on the gloss.

The rest of them have been printed in matt. I preferred matt paper in the final images because it gives the old fashioned look, almost like recreating old photographs.

4TH FINAL IMAGE (unedited)

She’s holding a photograph of a couple, you can tell that they just got married.
The idea of her holding this image is to tell the viewer that she’s the woman in the photograph.

5th FINAL IMAGE:
Props: hat, ring and long gloves
I asked the model to wear these props because they belongs to her grandmother who has past away a few years ago. These objects are the only important things that reminds of her grandma. The memories.

3rd FINAL IMAGE:
In this photograph the model is meant to look like she’s 20 years old.
She just got married and the ‘time is ticking’.
Watch- meaning behind it:  time, going back to memories/past

2nd FINAL IMAGE:
It’s a photograph of a teenager, back to old fashioned times.
She’s holding her hair up and she’s looking up.
The main prop is the photograph placed on her chest.

1st FINAL IMAGE.
This is an image of 19 years old model. I was a make up artist and a stylist in this project. My idea was to tell a story in my 6 final images. The first image was taken at Brick Lane, in the evening.
The story behind it:
She’s an old lady, probably around her 80’s. She’s looking back at her past and going back to the memories when she was a 10 years old girl then an older teenager, 30-40 years old and then the last image is the image of the 80 years old woman.
If I was allowed to take more photographs I would try and make the model look like she’s getting 10 years older in every photo.

TEST SHOTS of the model, without any make up at the secret gardens. I was trying to get the light right and not to get too much flash in the models face. After an hour I finally figured out that the flash was still too bright and used a flash meter which has helped to me to achieve a great lighting in the final photographs.

Instead of going to Highgate Cemetery, I decided to go to Secret Gardens in Hamstead. These are the test shots that I took before the photoshoot to see what’s the area like and where I’m going to shoot, which places would be suitable for the look in the image that I’m going for. In the 4th/5th photograph I would like my model to look like she’s gone back to 80’s and by holding a photograph or wearing her grandma’s ring is a part of the models memory.

Last photoshoot. These are the clothing that model is going to be wearing and a few props.

Power Of Memories

My idea is to let the woman in the first and the last photograph to tell the story in the 6 images. My model is going to be my friend from primary school, Karolina Brodnicka.

We used to go to the same school in Poland and I haven’t seen her in many years so I thought it would be a great idea to ask her to model for me as she’s part of MY memory.

The first time we’ve met up after years, we spoke about the props that I’m going to use in the photo shoot and she mentioned that she’s had loads of old black and white photographs of her grandma and other family relatives. I thought that would make the photo part of the memory. I decided to completely change how the model is going to look like and dress.

I hope that I can achieve ‘the old vintage look’ in photographs.
